New Haven Public Schools and the Athletic Department offer an Intra-Scholastic Athletic Programs for our Middle School, (Grades 7-8), student-athletes. Each season we offer multiple sports for both male and female student-athletes. The purpose of the program is to introduce new sports/activities to our youth and increase the number of athletes around New Haven. In doing, so our coaches aim to teach commitment, accountability, and teamwork through our organized sports programs. Most importantly, our objective is to create well-rounded student-athletes.

Who is eligible to participate in middle school sports?
7th and 8th Grade New Haven Public School Students
What does a middle school student-athlete need to ensure eligibility for participation?
It is required that all student-athletes interested in registering/participating for a sport, each have all of the following completed prior to trying out/playing:
~An updated copy of his or her physical examination, prior to participating
(Physicals are eligible for 13 months. Ex: 11/1/2016 is good until 12/1/2017)
~Student-Athletes/Parents/Guardians, must also complete all registration information on the New Haven Middle School Athletics “FormReleaf” website which you can access by clicking here or copying and pasting: https://formreleaf.com/organizations/new-haven-middle-schools in your browser
~Any other additional documentation a coach provides necessary for participation
Is there a fee to participate in middle school athletics?
No; the programs are all free programs
How many days a week do middle school sports meet?
Our middle school programs practice 3-5 times a week, Monday through Friday. Football and Basketball compete on Saturdays.
How do I find out if a practice and/or game is canceled?
A coach will contact parents/guardians. However, schedule updates are also posted on Twitter @NewHavenAD. Coaches will also inform schools of schedule updates.
What is an All-Star game and how are student-athletes chosen?
Our middle school all-star games are used as a reward for student-athletes who have demonstrated a positive role in school and on the playing field/court during his or her season. All Star Rosters are nominated by the coaches and finalized by the Athletic Department.
